Senior Software Engineer

In this varied role, you will build extraordinary software that supports GÉANT as an organisation and the network we are responsible for running. Our network is the largest and most advanced R&E (Research & Education) network in the world, connecting over 50 million users at 10,000 institutions across Europe. We provide users with highly reliable, unconstrained access to computing, analysis, storage, applications and other resources.
Reporting into the Head of Software Development, this role is a key part of our small and highly collaborative software team, which is located across our Cambridge and Amsterdam offices.
You will be working on projects to support various business functions across the organisations (e.g. our Events, Finance, Network Operations teams). You will also contribute to projects that facilitate collaboration in our R&E community and to help manage and improve the GÉANT network.
This is a collaborative role where you will enjoy regular contact with the solution architect, other software developers, and the product owners and stakeholders in an Agile environment.
This is a permanent and full-time role. If the role is filled in our Amsterdam office however – it will be offered as a 1-year definite contract initially, with the possibility of becoming indefinite thereafter.
Our ideal candidate
To be successful in this role you must have experience of architecting, designing, developing, testing, and implementing bespoke Information Systems in Java and related technologies. Experience of Java based Web Services, J2EE Framework, SPRING 5, SpringBoot, Relational Databases is needed and strong knowledge of JavaScript and front-end web development experience and extensive HTML5 / CSS3 development experience.

We are looking for a strong Python developer to help us build a next-generation network automation and provisioning framework connecting the European and Global Research & Education (R&E) networking community. You will contribute to the development of a single comprehensive circuit provisioning service referred as the “GÉANT Connection Service” (GCS) that will consolidate multiple GEANT circuit services under a single intelligent service provisioning tool. This service is based on the OpenNSA project.

We want someone who is keen to learn high-level network concepts such as TCP/IP routing, BGP, MPLS and network topology models. Any knowledge that you already have in these areas will be a great advantage.
You will work closely with numerous stakeholders including solution architects, software developers, product owners and external stakeholders in an agile environment.
This role is a fixed term contract for 12 months to help us deliver a critical and important project.
We are looking for someone with the following skills:
Extensive programming experience with Python and related technologies, specifically Twisted framework, psycopg and pip
Experience in building and deploying applications to containers
Understanding of or willingness to learn network technologies, including main transport and routing protocols, especially IP, Ethernet, MPLS and OTN.
Knowledge of Trust & Identity technologies (such as SAML, OpenID Connect, OAuth, Shibboleth, SimpleSamlPHP) is beneficial.
